Lincoln, Nebraska – September 30, 2021 – Life is not fair and often leaves people with terribly traumatic experiences. But the winner is the one who does not bog down in the face of challenges and manages to find the strength to overcome the adversities, and hope for a brighter tomorrow. Author Marlina Bowdery is one such indomitable soul, who, despite an incorrigibly traumatic past, managed to find the power and spirit to rise up from the ashes like a phoenix. She has just released her new book, “I Was Definitely Born Into Trauma”, that aims to inspire all through her motivating real-life story of overcoming past trauma and living a happy successful life today.  

“I Was Definitely Born Into Trauma” is presently available in ebook version on Kindle Amazon. The paperback version will be available on Amazon from October 11, 2021.

The release will be followed by two book signing events. The first book signing event is scheduled for October 23, 2021, and will be hosted in Memphis, Tennessee. The second book signing event is scheduled for November 11, 2021, and will be hosted in Lincoln, Nebraska. 

In an exclusive interview, Marlina Bowdery shared that her new book will open up many channels of conversation about childhood trauma. The book covers a long line of deeply concerning issues, including mental health, molestation, colorism, dysfunctional family, emotional abuse and hidden family secrets.

“I am excited to share with you all that I have just released my new book, ‘I Was Definitely Born Into Trauma’. The book shares the real-life account of my life from the age of three until I had my first child at the age of 14. I had an extremely disturbing childhood and adulthood but somehow I managed to find power in my pain which motivated me to stand up and overcome the challenges that came my way. I know there are many who are suffering from serious challenges in life- I hope my book and my story will be able to offer them the strength, courage and positivity needed to get rid of the adversities and carve out a happy life for themselves”, stated the author.

“I Was Definitely Born Into Trauma” is the first book of the 5 book series the author is planning to release in near future.  

“Growing up as a Southern girl in a Black community was a tough road. It was a crap house where I grew up, surrounded by pimps, prostitutes, drug dealers, killers, and also child molesters. I was violated and also shot at the tender age of 3. Irony was, nobody, including my own family members, did not come to protect me. Worse, when I told them about the predators, I was SILENCED and asked to stay shut about all the inhuman crimes I have been subjected to. But, nobody can stop me now – the world needs to know the truth and my new book will help to do what I was forced not to do as a child.” 

From a trauma survivor to a single teen mother at just 14 to receiving her PLADAC license in Alcohol and Drug Counseling, Marlina has come a long way. She also holds an  Associate’s Degree in Human Services, and Criminal Justice. Additionally, Marlina is a Licensed Cosmetologist, Restaurant Owner of M & J’s Southern Style Food, and creator of 3D Live Canvases. 

On the family front, today, she is the happy wife of an extremely doting husband (Ira James Bowdery), mother of 6, and also grandmother of 14. Unfortunately, she lost her first son last year. 

“My book is inspired by my son’s death. He was barely 32 when he died at the strike of the pandemic and lockdown last year. What pains a grieving mother the most is that he was murdered by a friend and blood cousin. I grew up with my son and my son grew up with me. I had him at 14 years old. I didn’t bury him until 3 months later. In the midst of his body being out, I took care of him weeks at a time at home”, noted the author adding that later she found  purpose through her pain afters her son’s death and the murder trial.  

“I feel happy about the fact I have been able to beat all the odds that were stacked against me. It’s because I didn’t allow ‘trauma’ to define me- rather it has always been the other way round. And, that’s the lesson and legacy I wish to leave for my children and grandchildren. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank my beloved husband who has been my greatest support and strength always.”
