World Sports Photography Awards Unveils Shortlist

The Inaugural World Sports Photography Awards has announced its first ever collection of finalists with a stunning selection of images encapsulating the emotion, power, athleticism and drama of sport. More than 20 sports including soccer, American football, rugby, athletics, F1, tennis, cycling, ice-hockey, swimming and boxing are featured in the breath-taking series of photographs.

The images represent the work of over 100 sports photographers from around the world who have expertly “captured the moment” in the frenetic arena of sport. As well shots including global stars like Lewis Hamilton, Megan Rapinoe, Paul Pogba, Serena Williams, Novak Djokovic, Tiger Woods and Anthony Joshua several of the photographs feature stunning shots of stadia, candid behind the scenes glimpses and engaging shots of supporters and fans. As well as triumph, celebration, pain and despair in equal measure.

The Images are grouped into 8 categories: Joy, Precision, Speed, Focus, Determination, Power, View, Celebration.

The winning images will be selected by a jury of sports industry professionals and announced at the end of May.

Speaking about the awards, co-founder Alan Whiter said, “Sport and Photography have a long and powerful relationship. The emotion, athleticism and focus that is at the heart of sport is a uniquely

captured and communicated through photography. These are an amazing collection of images across sporting disciplines and with all sorts of stories behind them.

The World Sports Photography Awards unlocks the amazing power of sports imagery through the story-telling power of competition.

Entrants

Entrants to the World Sport Photography Awards will come from professional photographers around the world covering every sport. There are 20 named sporting categories as well as cluster categories for smaller sports. Each Photographer may submit 20 images. The photograph must have been taken between Jan 1st 2019 and December 31st 2019. There is NO fee to enter.
