“Poppy’s Purpose To Prevent Pollution” is a fun and informative book for children that looks at issues that ocean wildlife face and how kids can help protect animals from plastic pollution. Kids everywhere will enjoy the fun illustrations and story and be inspired to help.” – Brad Nahill, President of SEE Turtles

It was six years ago that marine biologist Christine uploaded a video of a sea turtle in distress because of a 12 cm disposable plastic drinking straw lodged in its nose. The upsetting viral video (Christine’s Viral Video) was the inspiration behind the story of “Poppy’s Purpose to Prevent Pollution” written by children’s book author, Melissa Kay Moore.

Christine’s video graphically shows why plastic waste is highly detrimental to marine life, even as small as a single-use plastic straw, which is used by most of us frequently. Although plastic straws are only one small example of the plastic pollution resulting from many unnecessary plastic items left behind by our lifestyle of quick consumerism. It might not be our plastic waste, but it is our responsibility, nonetheless.

“Poppy’s Purpose to Prevent Pollution” tells the heartwarming story of three friends working together to solve a problem that will leave them questioning the future of ocean life.  In this touching story, you will see why everyone needs to do their part to prevent plastic pollution. The book aims to raise awareness by teaching children the harmful effects of plastics to our ocean friends and how to help to keep our oceans clean.
