Southeast Addiction Center: Breaking the Addiction Cycle Using DBT Therapy

It is undeniable that there is a growing need for more addiction treatment facilities all throughout the state of Tennessee with the rise of substance abuse cases among residents. As can be expected, the numbers continue to increase throughout the years, and it is for this reason that Southeast Addiction Center opted to open a second facility in Nashville to ensure that the need for more treatment facilities is being met.

Additionally, there is an increase in the cases of opioid overdose, prompting the Tennessee General Assembly to allow pharmacies to carry naloxone, a medication that is effective in negating the effects of an opioid overdose just until the concerned person is able to receive proper professional treatment.

“Tennessee is a beautiful state. But like many states, it is unfortunately in the midst of the opioid epidemic and suffering from a wave of addictions and overdoses. At Southeast, we’ve made it our mission to save lives and remove the poison of addiction from the communities we serve,” explains Nick Diamantedes, Executive Director of Southeast Addiction Center.

Southeast Addiction Center offers different types of addiction treatments that are individually designed to cater to specific needs. The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an approach that duplicates a realistic setting where customized treatment plans are available for each patient depending on their specific needs. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), on the other hand, uses a more relaxed treatment environment that is designed to guide patients as they are re-introduced to their regular and addiction-free life. Additionally, the Outpatient Program gives patients access to the services provided by the PHP and IOP, allowing very busy people to get treated.

Southeast Addiction Center also incorporates Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) when treating their patients. DBT is the leading evidence-based therapeutic technique that teaches you how to break patterns that lead to substance abuse and behavioral health disorders. DBT works quickly, helps patients feel better, lessens the symptoms of withdrawal while reducing anxiety and depression.

DBT treatment is a cognitive-behavioral approach that emphasizes the psychosocial aspects of treatment. There are four key principles to focus on, which include mindfulness, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and emotion regulation.

Research on DBT has shown that sessions using DBT were highly effective in reducing relapses, withdrawal symptoms, and overall emotional state in patients by helping strengthen the neural connections that lead to positive thinking and combat negative patterns in the brain.

The treatment center is made up of a team of nurses, therapists, and doctors who provide sustainable and long-term health and recovery. One of the main objectives is to equip patients to be able to resist the temptation of taking alcohol and drugs in the future.

Being able to give high-quality services is the treatment center’s topmost objective and will continue to be so until the upward trend of drug and alcohol addiction in Nashville are converted into a downward direction. At the end of the day, saving lives is more important and helping to eradicate addiction is Southeast Addiction Center’s way of contributing to the cause.
